offset .
The Timeline displays
your edited sequence as clips arrayed on multiple video and audio tracks.
Editing with compressed audio will cause FCP to lose sync and it could cause a crash. MP3 is compressed audio.
Logging is the process of reviewing your source videotapes, labeling and marking the In and out points of usable clips.
Where does an imported file
go when you use it in your FCP project?
It goes to the browser and hardrive, not your project file. You must save it

Media mover copies a sequence and its associated media files to a different disk location without breaking any links between a sequence and the media source files it refers to.
If you accidently break the link between a project, sequence or clip and its underlying media files, you can reconnect them by using Relink Media.
After you completed a sequence
and printed it to tape, make sure to save your project that contains the
final version of your sequence.
One gigabyte of disk space is needed to store 5 minutes of full-resolution DV.
If you delete a clip from
the browser bin you can re-import the file to relink it.
If you move a media file
in your project from it's original location you would need to use the relink
media command.
Media mover can copy one
sequence at a time.
FCP is a nondestructive editing, nonlinear editing system.
Compositing and Special Effects
Drop Shadow adds
the illusion of dimensional depth to the 2D television screen.
Layering is an arrangement
of multiple clips of one point in time, each in its own track. (Pg.418)
Whenever you create motion paths, change filters over time, sculpt audio levels, or just fade to black, you need to use keyframes.
Distort changes the shape of the clip by adjusting its corners.
Opacity refers to
a clip's level of transparency.
Wireframe mode represents
the selected clip as a simple rectangle on a black background.
The motion blur effect enhances the illusion of movement by composting the images of adjacent forms.
The image+wireframe
mode allows you to both see your clip and edit its size/position.
Changing the size of a clip
is known as scaling.
Generators are a
class of effects that create new video information, rather than modify existing
video.
Any process that combines two or more image layers to create an effect is called compositing.
FCP effect features browser
Effects tab.
Crop removes a portion of the clip from the side you specify.
